Top Questions

  • How long should my hair be before waxing?
    • Hair should be about 1/4 inches long. This is approximately 1-2 weeks growth, depending on the area. If hair is longer, trim before waxing.
  • My hair is hard to remove with wax. How can I make it easier?
    • Before waxing, take a shower or bath, or lay a warm wash cloth on the area to be waxed for a few minutes prior to waxing. Sally Hansen also offers a variety of Extra Strength Wax Hair Removers for coarse, hard-to-remove hair.
  • After waxing, I tend to get irritation and ingrown hairs and bumps. Any suggestions?
    • Gently exfoliate your skin every day in order to keep the skin from growing over the hair follicle. Sally Hansen offers a variety of aftercare products to help soothe and treat the skin and prevent ingrown hairs. These products can be used immediately after waxing to calm and soothe the skin.
  • I used a wax hair remover, and I'm all out of Azulene Oil. How do I remove excess wax from the skin?
    • You can use either Baby Oil or Mineral Oil. For stripless waxes, use a little ball of leftover wax to remove the excess. It sticks to itself! Sugar Waxes and our No Heat Gel Hair Removers are water soluble. Simply rinse with water!
  • I have a hard time determining the direction of hair growth when I do a bikini wax. Help!
    • The hair in your bikini area grows in many directions. Work in 2" sections at a time making sure to note the direction of hair growth.
  • How do depilatory cremes work?
    • Depilatory cremes dissolve the hair just below the skin's surface in as little as 3 minutes. Smoothness will last twice as long as shaving and hair will grow back softer and finer.
  • What are the advantages to bleaching?
    • Bleaching is completely pain free! Many people like to bleach areas of their body where they don't necessarily want to remove hair, but they want it to disappear, such as arms, chin, upper lip, and stomach. Bleaching is great for "peach fuzz" so there's no shadow – just virtually invisible results!
  • I shave my legs and I get stubble the very next day! What can I do?
    • Sally Hansen Smooth Glow Stubble Reducing Daily Moisturizer is the perfect solution! This three in one creme moisturizes your legs, imparts a subtle sun-kissed glow, and best of all & allows you to remove hair up to half as often. Use it every day to help your hair look and feel finer as it grows back.
  • I don't want to "shape" my brows, but I want a cleaner look. What should I do?
    • The easiest way to brighten your brows is to wax the "peach fuzz" above the brow area. Even though this hair is usually invisible, when waxed away, it makes eyebrows look cleaner and more defined!
  • Help! I just got invited to a great party and I didn't shave my legs this morning.
    • Don't worry – Sally Hansen has a number of products that are quick and easy to use! Try our new Spray-On Shower-Off Hair Remover. Spray it on, brush your teeth, touch up your makeup, and in as little as 3 minutes, rinse the hair away!
